Participatory Projects
Participatory Projects assists current residents and New York-based alumni in the research and production of new works in the public realm. Through connecting residents to resources in the immediate neighborhood and Greater New York, Participatory Projects supports resident and alumni practices, strengthens the vitality of East Williamsburg and integrates residents’ work into the life of the city.
ISCP initiated Participatory Projects in late 2010 as a response to numerous resident proposals to develop new work situated in the public realm during their residency. Residents are often inspired by New York City, including ISCP’s immediate neighborhood of East Williamsburg. This section of Brooklyn contains one of the largest industrial zones in the city and is adjacent to a residential area with a population that is both diverse and engaged with strong local traditions. These elements contribute to a sense of open space and possibility now largely absent elsewhere in the city. ISCP will collaborate with a number of other organizations in 2011 to develop and co-produce a wide range of Participatory Projects.
